New York Youth Jobs Program Tax Credit
In addition to the WOTC, some states have credits you can take advantage of based on different criteria. For example, the New York Youth Jobs Program is a tax credit program that provides employers with a refundable tax credit for hiring eligible, at-risk youth ages 16 to 24. The credit amount can be up to $7,500 per eligible employee and can be claimed for up to two consecutive six-month periods.
To be eligible, both the employer and the employee must meet certain qualifications. The employer must be certified by the New York State Department of Labor to participate in the program and must hire qualified employees between January 1 and December 31 of the program year, and the employee must be between the ages of 16 and 24 when they start work.
There are different credit amounts depending on whether the employee is hired for a full-time or part-time position, with higher credits being offered for full-time employment.
